  • Filming Your Games & Ridiculous Jersey Colors

    Posted on by

Now that we’ve broken down about 500 games already this season, we thought we would pass around some examples of good filming and bad filming – which are really the biggest reasons why your breakdown is better or worse than you expected.
Accuracy in your breakdown and stats (other than our 5% human error rate) comes down to:
    1) Having jersey color combinations that are not extremely hard to see (think gray jerseys with yellow numbers)
    2) Film quality (panning back and forth, being close enough to the court, zooming in, not degrading the film quality, and of course just having a good camera)
Here are some examples of jersey combinations and or bad filming that prevents you from getting back an accurate breakdown.

Here are examples of great filming that make our lives and your break down great:

Remember, while some of you might want to compress your video before you send it to us to make the upload time smaller, try recording with fewer frames per second (FPS) instead of just reducing the bit rate. Most cameras record at 60 FPS by default. If you can get that down to 30 FPS instead, you will reduce the file size significantly, without losing too much clarity.
We have a saying in the technology world – GIGO – which stands for Garbage In, Garbage Out.
Your film breakdown can only be as good as the film that you input – so please keep that in mind when you see discrepancies in scores and stats. Sometimes it is our fault for missing something – but most of the time a mistake is due to the fact that it’s just impossible for us to see what happened.
